Our journey started in Butetown, Cardiff in the UK in March 2013. Since then we explored and got in touch with severals from the African Diaspora communities all over the world. Here's a glimpse of them.

Butetown is the oldest Somali settlement in the UK, it’s also a very multicultural neighborhood in the Welsh capital of Cardiff. The first Somali sailors arrived in the 17th Century

In the 17th centuries the Los Angeles area was the most multicultural area of the United States. Now it’s home to more than 60,000 Sub-Saharan Africans

The African Diaspora are about: 112.6 million people in South America; 39.2 million people in North America; 13.5 million people in the Caribbean; and about 3.5 million people in Europe

GIANPAOLO BUCCI

Director

Angelo Gianpaolo Bucci is an Italian social issues-focused film-maker active worldwide, whose films were screened at Med Film Festival and MACRO Testaccio in Rome, Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, IFCT in Washington DC, SESIFF festival in Seoul. During his seven years working for RAI Radiotelevisione Italiana he also developed a broad range of independent projects, among which is a theatrically released long feature film. Recently he moved first to London to work with a VII photographer and a BBC journalist on social reportages and documentaries; then to Los Angeles, where he was invited for an artist residency at the 18th Street Arts Center to work on the documentary series (IN)VISIBLE CITIES.

BEATRICE NGALULA KABUTAKAPUA

Journalist

Beatrice Ngalula Kabutakapua is a narrative journalist born in Italy but with Congolese roots. In her seven years spent working in the media she has collaborated with The Guardian, L’Espresso, Radio France Internationale and the BBC. Focused on international development, migration and human rights issues, she has also been a staff member of the UN Department of Information and editorial trainer for the US-based NGO World Pulse. She has won several prizes for (IN)VISIBLE CITIES: the Melograno Award for Intercultural Project from the Nilde Iotti Foundation, the Journalist of the Month for July 2014 from the International Journalists' Network and the Multiethnicity and Interculture Prize for Journalists from the Rome Municipality.
